Sorry to be a stickler, but at 0:33 you show a Playbill for Showboat which, unless Rodgers collaborated in some way that I'm not aware of, and I'd like to know, if it's so, Showboat was a Jerome Kern/Oscar Hammerstein II creation. Thank you!

Not sure I understand the claim that "Many a New Day" has no counter-melody. If true, that would be a giant step backwards. It has a chromatic bass line to begin with, a counter-melody in half-notes at bar 38 and a very prominent counter-melody at bar 84 in the dance music.
Apparently this was written "11 years ago" and yet Rodger's name is still misspelled in the title.
The notes that rush up into the song "Oklahoma" were stolen directly from the notes that rush up into "I Got Plenty of Nothing" in Porgy and Bess.
Oklahoma was not the first "serious" musical. That title belongs to "Show Boat" which was also Hammerstein's.
Oscar's nickname was pronounced "OCK-ee" not "OAK-ee."

Since 1965 I’ve seen Broadway revivals of Carousel ( 2 different productions ),Oklahoma, The King and I. and South Pacific. They will always be the greatest duo to create music for the Broadway stage.

You accidentally showed the playbill from Showboat. That was Jerome Kern, not Dick Rodgers.
Edelweiss was the last song they wrote together Apparently Hammerstein actually wrote that on his deathbed
That was the last complete song, but the last thing he wrote was a quatrain that was added to another song: "Love in your heart wasn't put there to stay; love isn't love till you give it away."

Rogers & Hammerstein duo is often compared to Gilbert & Sullivan. Oklahoma! was written the same way as H.M.S. Pinafore.
Rodgers is spelled with a "D."
Rodgers best songs were with Hart; his best shows were with Hammerstein
aberjed It is interesting that in the songs Rodgers wrote with Hart, that the music always came first. And with the musicals Rodgers' wrote with Hammerstein 11, the lyrics always came first.

Guess Who. Richard Rodger's is on record, ( no pun intended ), as stating that neither he or Oscar Hammerstein 11, were songwriters, because neither could write a song out of the context of a musical. Richard Rodgers stated that they were musical theatre writers.
